Are PLUS ULTRA toothbrushes eco-friendly?
Yes! PLUS ULTRA bamboo toothbrushes and replacement heads provide an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic and are made from over 90% biodegradable materials.
Are PLUS ULTRA toothbrushes dentist recommended?
Yes! PLUS ULTRA's toothbrushes are designed to the specifications of dentists and feature a wave shaped brush head with soft, BPA-free bristles for optimal performance.
What is PLUS ULTRA's packaging made of?
PLUS ULTRA's 100% biodegradable, paper packaging is made from paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). We use plant based inks to print our packaging. This packaging is used for all PLUS ULTRA products, included toothbrushes, replacement heads, and bamboo toothbrush accessories.
What is the bristle head made of?
Our toothbrush heads are made of soft, nylon bristles and metal staples to hold the bristles in place.
Will you ever make biodegradable bristles for your toothbrushes?
There is a big misconception here, or "greenwashing" as we call it. A few brands out there make claims that their bristles are biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable- none of which is not factual (ie: made with caster bean oil). We use Nylon, because that's what dentists and the American Dental Association and US Dentists both recommend is best to keep your enamel safe and prevent scratching. Should they recommend another material, we will absolutely consider it. But there is no better option as of yet!
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
The American Dental Association recommends that toothbrushes be replaced every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed with use. Toothbrushes should always be replaced after you've had a cold or flu.
Bamboo Toothbrushes
Use this section for any descriptive text you need to fill out your pages or to add introductory headings between other blocks.
What is the bamboo toothbrush handle made of?
PLUS ULTRA’s bamboo toothbrushes are made from 100% organically grown, sustainable, anti-microbial Moso bamboo — a durable material with anti-bacterial properties.
What is the best way to dispose of my bamboo toothbrush?
The bamboo toothbrush handle can be disposed of in an active compost and will biodegrade.
The nylon bristles and metal staples are not biodegradable. The bristles can be pulled out with pliers and once removed the small metal staples or, alternatively, you can snap off the bristle head. The nylon and metal should be thrown away. These are not recyclable.
The packaging of your PLUS ULTRA bamboo toothbrush can be put in your recycling bin or compost bin.
How should I store my bamboo toothbrush?
All toothbrushes should be rinsed with tap water after use to remove residual toothpaste or debris and then stored upright in a dry environment. Our bamboo toothbrush cases and head are also a great way to store our bamboo toothbrushes!
Replacement Heads
Use this section for any descriptive text you need to fill out your pages or to add introductory headings between other blocks.
What are the replacement heads made of?
Biodegradable cornstarch. Non-GMO. And they are patent-pending.
Will you make bamboo replacement heads?
No! Besides the fact that these "bamboo heads" have plastic inserts in them, we tried bamboo heads (many moons ago in our R&D stage) and they don't withstand the vibrations of an electric toothbrush. So unless you want your bristles falling out, or cracked bamboo pieces in your mouth- we highly recommend to avoid these. We won't ever make them, because they don't work- at all. Simple as that. ;)
What is the best way to dispose of my replacement head?
First, remove the nylon bristles and metal and white ring at the base of the head. These are not biodegradable and must be disposed of in the trash. The remaining base portion is biodegradable and compostable. Depending on the composting environment, the cornstarch portion will biodegrade between 4 weeks and 6 months. This all depends on the amount of light, moisture, heat, oxygen and nutrients exposed in the compost- these all affect the speed of biodegradability. For fastest results, recommend composting in an industrial facility.
